PROSCAR
and PROPECIA
The
retail Rx price for Propecia is approximately equal to the
retail Rx price for Proscar. Both tablets are made by
Merck and contain only Finasteride: a Proscar tablet has
5mg, a Propecia tablet has 1mg. Cost-conscious consumers
therefore purchase Proscar and divide the 5mg tablet into
fifths, thereby enjoying the benefits of Propecia for less
than US$ 16 per month, a 70% savings over Propecia.
Tablets are most easily divided with a pill cutter, which
is also available on our order form. Proscar is available
for immediate delivery.
The
drug finasteride was originally developed to treat benign
prostate enlargement. Finasteride in a 5mg dose is
marketed as Proscar by Merck. Finasteride significantly
reduces the formation of a hormonal variation of
testosterone called DHT. High amounts of DHT contribute to
prostate enlargement. It was quickly discovered that men
taking Proscar were also regrowing hair on their heads
were they had been bald.
It
was discovered that DHT in addition to enlarging the
prostate also was found in high concentration in the
scalps of balding men, the DHT causing the hair follicles
to close. Many tests were performed and it was discovered
that a 5 mg dose was more than required for reducing DHT
in the scalp of balding men.
It
was concluded that anywhere from a 1/2 mg to 1 mg dose was
optimal to treat baldness.
Propecia was the name given for 1 mg of finasteride to
treat baldness and was approved by the FDA
Proscar
is a MEN ONLY treatment for hair loss, women are strongly
advised not to take or come in contact with Propecia.
Propecia may cause abnormalities of the baby's sex organs,
a condition known as hypospasdias. |
